“Bright Lights Big City” is a doodle-style illustration. With ‘doodling’, cartoon characters are apparently drawn randomly and without a preconceived plan. It was a personal project, made on an Apple iPad with Adobe Draw. The illustration was for sale, printed on high quality luxury paper.

Inspiration
The inspiration and theme of this illustration is ‘city’. While doodling it struck me that the main character in the illustration, the guy in the middle with the helmet on, is like many people on the streets of a big city.
Inside their head but almost unconsious
While travelling to and from work or home, with all the bright lights and distractions, many people are completely ‘living’ inside their heads. With thoughts being like birds. The birds house is their mind. They are alone with their thoughts. Not feeling. Not really present. Blocking and protecting (the helmet) themselves from influences outside their body. With only a few necessary sensors (the security cameras) active. This concept turned out with enough ‘hooks’ to come up with all sorts of funny and strange extra elements.
