Scalable E-commerce identity for Goedkopermet webshops – Case Study

Every new assignment is always fun. Certainly if the project is a bit larger than normal. When I was asked by Michael Klein, owner of webshop ‘Goedkopermetled’, with the request to design an online brand identity for what should be a whole series of web shops, I didn’t have to think long.

Goedkopermetled

The existing webshop ‘Goedkopermetled’ (translated as ‘Cheaper with LED’ sells LED lamps and accessories. “Cheaper” implies that this is an online price fighter. That is true, but Goedkopermetled also aspires to be a greener eco-friendlier alternative to normal lighting.

Corporate Identity Goedkopermet

Michael Klein asked me to design an brand identity for his range of ‘Goedkopermet’ web shops. In addition to the logo, the Magento webshop Goedkopermetschakelmateriaal (‘Cheaper with switch materials’) had to be designed. In other words, the shop sells light switches and accessories, but from a large number of suppliers, with lots of related products and supplies. It soon became clear that it would be a challenging project.

Modular website design

I designed the webshop with ‘growth’ in mind; modular, with the possibility of adding many new products and product categories in the future.

Art Direction: technical squares

The brand identity was based on the concept of ‘technical squares’. The products sold in the Goedkopermet webshops are all of a technical nature. Lamps, faucets and switches. So the logo had to communicate this technical aspect. Because of ambitious goals of setting up multiple webshops quickly, the plus sign was added. It represents the part of the market where Goedkopermet would operate, where value is based of discounts and the addition of multiple webshops.
