Westerpop is a free annual music festival in Delft. In 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014 I designed the illustrations on the crew t-shirts of the festival volunteers.
The assignment had only two restrictions;
Note: the music festival is still held in Delft, the Netherlands, is biennial now and includes many more music genres than just rock.
I based the illustration on a photo of a jumping guitarist. The photo is a good reference to the Westerpop logo and radiates pleasure, enthusiasm and passion for the music.
The photo was then traced on a light box with a fineliner and provided with lines that give a kind of mummy effect. By letting the lines ‘come loose’ from the person, the ecstasy and passion for music is displayed.
Although this could have been done on a computer and with creative software, I wanted to see the natural appearance of a handmade illustration in the lines.
The artwork was then scanned, edited lightly and color was added.
Adobe Illustrator was used for the typography and the rest of the design of the t-shirt printing.
