Dutch Comic ‘Delft 750 years’ illustrations

Long ago in 1996, I participated with good friend Robert-Jan Langenberg in the Delft Comic Strip Competition. He wrote the scenario, I made the drawings. We won. And we were requested not to join the next competition to make room for other contestants.

Delft 750 years anniversary

In previous years I had been participating the same competition on my own and had won prizes. In 1996 my birthplace Delft existed for 750 years. That was also the theme of the comic book drawing competition. And Delft is also the city where comic book shop and co-organizer of the event, Bul Super, was located.

Sticky halftone foil

2 x 2 halves
To obtain super sharp drawings, each half of the final A4 page was drawn on an A3 sheet of paper. The 2 x 2 halves were then stuck together and photo-copied to get the maximum number of two A4 pages.

No color was allowed. To get nice grayscale after copying, I used sticky sheets / foil with halftone patterns.

We won the first prize.
