Lyla Coach Android App UX/UI Design Conversational Interface

A 'Conversational UI (User Interface)' formed the core of the Lyla Coach sleep app. Sleep (and falling asleep) is not a natural part of every day for many people. The Lyla Sleep Coach app offered sleep training, based on five years of scientific research by the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands) into sleep problems. As a Freelance UX/UI Designer I designed the UX/UI Design of this Android app.

Conversational UI
The basis of the app is a virtual sleep coach. The main goal of this coach is to communicate with users in the most natural way possible. This so-called 'Conversational UI' was therefore an important part of the project. I was approached to improve the UX Design and User Interface (UI Design) of the Android app.

Information Structure and Visual Design
One of the first things that I therefore tackled in consultation with the customer was improving the information structure. Which resulted in much better app navigation. Furthermore, the brand identity was raised to a more professional level. And the conversations (Conversational UI) that the bot would have with customers were carefully considered.

Conversational UI

Six week program
The app is actually a virtual sleep coach, using the Conversational UI to see where things can be approved regarding sleep and falling asleep. Concrete solutions are proposed on the basis of the user's answers. In a six-week program, the client is taken to significant improvements in sleep.

Conversations should strike the right chord

Five years of scientific research
The virtual coach asks the client/patient to keep track of their sleep rhythm for a number of weeks. A treatment plan is drawn up based on that data. And with the help of the conversations that the virtual coach Lyla has with the patient, it is examined where things go wrong. Five years of scientific research at the University of Utrecht has been put into the Android app. In order to help people with the discipline to complete the six-week treatment period, the Conversational UI was indispensable.
