Value Based Pricing - An inspiring talk by consultant Ron Baker

The exact same bottle of water, priced differently three times.

That's one of the examples of value pricing that expert Ron Baker, a well-known American consultant, talks about in this mind blowing presentation on Youtube:

Value Based Pricing - An inspiring talk by consultant Ron Baker - Freelance Brand Identity Designer Michiel Nagtegaal / Mr. Upside

I share this link with you because I found it a super inspiring video. Especially very relevant for business owners. Like creative agencies and freelance creatives like me. Previously I already addressed this topic in my blog article ‘What does Brand Identity Design cost?’.

Youtube is a, at least by me, often underestimated source of super valuable information. That's why I often don't watch Netflix (or any TV at all) at night, but rather Youtube. I use Youtube for learning.

As a Dutch Freelance Brand Identity Designer I have been charging almost no hourly rates for a few years now. Except for one current client, I always work with a fixed project price.

Because clients never ever pay for my time. They pay for results.

Want to learn more about how absurd hourly rates really are? Search on Youtube for ‘hourly billing’. Chris Do, Jonathan Stark, Blair Enns and Ron Baker all have said some pretty useful things about it.

Back to the water bottle example.

Ron Baker points out that the price of the same water is different each time, because the value to the customer of this water is different each time.

After three days in a blistering hot desert, the water is life-saving. That same water in a bottle in the supermarket is already less valuable. And if that same water fills up your house during a flood, there is even a negative value attached to that same water.

So, inspiring video. And highly recommended viewing.
